Life in Viborg is significantly affected by the presence of The Animation Workshop, a school that educates great artists in animation, games, and movie industries.
The city itself hosts a multitude of companies within the same industries which together creates a creative environment throughout the city, complete with a yearly animation and games festival. The city has recently been recognized with the status as an UNESCO Creative City. This congregation of creativity also creates a hub for international students and workers in the industries, so English is the main language spoken between most companies and students.
The city of Viborg has close proximity to great nature experiences, with forest, lakes and hills nearby allow activities such as rowing and mountain-biking. In the city, activities like parkour and skating can be performed in the GAME Streetmekka sports/culture-hall.
Viborg is located in the heart of Denmark, an hour away from Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. The cost of housing is very reasonable compared to Aarhus or Copenhagen and it is easy to afford living here with a family, both within the city or on the countryside.
There is care guarantee in the municipality so there is no problem in getting kids cared for. In Denmark public education is free, so while there is a fee on daycare and kindergartens, schools from 6 year and up is free all the way through university. When kids turn 18, they are supported financially with SU (education support) while studying as well. Healthcare is universally free as well, so while taxes might be higher here, there are no unforeseen bills regarding education and health.
